Manchester City Football Club is an English football club based in Manchester, founded in 1880 under the name of St. Mark's (West Gorton). The club became Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887 before taking its present name in 1894. The club operates since 2003 in the City of Manchester Stadium. Manchester United, another team the historic city of Manchester is the main rival of Manchester City Football Club.
The club experienced its best period of the late 1960s to early 1970s, a period which saw England win Championship, FA Cup, League Cup and Cup Winners Cup with Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison at the helm of the team and with players like Colin Bell, Francis Lee and Mike Summerbee.
Since his last victory, in 1976 League Cup, the club was never able to win a single trophy. The club's decline led to two relegation in three years during the 1990s. Thus, City has spent the season 98-99 in the third level of English football for the only time in its history. The club has since regained his place in the elite level he has attended more often throughout its history. Since 2008 and the arrival of the current president Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the club has considerable financial resources enabling an ambitious recruitment.
