Nintendo sales fall 50%

The Japanese giant video game Nintendo has reported a fall of more than half its sales in the first quarter over one year to 93.93 billion yen (816 million), due to the absence of featured games for its consoles struggling to find buyers. The sales of Nintendo had already plunged by 25.6% in the first quarter of 2010 to 2011 a year, partly because of currency fluctuations.

The group has also been a victim of rising of the Japanese currency, all resulting in an operating deficit of 37.7 billion yen (328 million), against a gain of 23 billion last year at the same time, and a net loss of 25.15 billion yen (220 million) equivalent to that lamented a year earlier.

DOWN 40% OF THE 3DS

Nintendo has also revised down a massive Thursday its forecast of financial results for the full fiscal year of April 2011 to March 2012, due to a decrease in popularity of its products, the yen and expensive higher spending. It sets out all the stops to promote its handheld consoles Nintendo 3DS, who do not meet the expected success despite an unprecedented three-dimensional rendering visible without glasses. He is also forced to become active in developing its next machine room, which is U Wii successor to the Wii in order to recover as much as possible the bar before the year end in March 2012.

To boost sales of its new phones, a sector of the market where Nintendo has an undivided domination thanks to previous versions of the DS, the manufacturer announced a 40% drop in prices of 3DS, from 25 000 to 15 000 yen (less than 140 euros). The decrease will be effective August 11 in Japan, said President Satoru Iwata. Nintendo did not say when the decline would be effective in the U.S. or Europe, merely say that cuts would take place by September, "a schedule and in different proportions to that provided to Japan" .

Price declines of this type, just months after the release of a new console - the 3DS was on sale in February - are exceptional in the gaming industry. Price reductions are mostly moderate and occur later in the life cycle of consoles, on which manufacturers and distributors carry a small margin, the bulk of their profits being made on the games. In order not to antagonize the first buyers of its latest console, Nintendo announced that players who paid the full price for the console will be offered twenty games playable on NES or GBA 3DS, the first Zelda or Mario kart super circuit.

Nintendo more than ever expected annual net profit of 20 billion yen (175 million), instead of planned 110 billion and 77.6 billion collected last year, and an operating profit of 35 billion yen (175 billion against expected) on a turnover which should not exceed 900 billion yen instead of 1 100 billion, a fall of 11.3% over the year.

Nintendo action collapses the Tokyo Stock Exchange

The action of the video game giant Nintendo, collapsed at the Tokyo Stock Exchange since the introduction of its new home console, Wii U. The title of Nintendo's tomb, Thursday, June 9, its lowest closing level in over five years. It was worth only 16,160 yen (138 euro) at the end of the session, after dropping 10% in two days. It was not listed as low in close since January 2006.

Investors are very skeptical about the success of the future group home console, Wii U, presented Tuesday at the E3 video game show in Los Angeles. They believe that this new machine will be hard to offset falling revenues suffered in recent years by Nintendo, whose products competed hard. "U The Wii itself is not a priori a bad console, but market participants were hoping for more innovation, " explained analysts.

The action group had peaked in 2007, rising to 71,900 yen (614 euro) in October, closing as Nintendo recorded unprecedented success with its DS handheld console and Wii home. According to VG Chartz specialized site, the Wii has sold over 86 million copies worldwide

iD SoftWare for the Wii U ?

Wii U. .. How not to talk since Nintendo's E3 conference?

Between console gamers and fans to console, the Wii U surprises, and not third parties who say the opposite. Indeed between Ubisoft and TtGames, the Wii takes advantage of U as well as exclusive games for PS3 and Xbox 360.

This time it was John Carmack from id Software that wants to take advantage of the Wii also U. It is in an interview with Gamespot about his latest game: Rage, which will come out later this year on HD consoles and PC. It talks about developing the game, why he did not talk about Wii and the Wii also U. Here is the comment on:

"[Nintendo] has done a big demonstration at the company ZeniMax and I told myself:" Do I have to go? "It was just a month ago I think. But I told myself:" No , I really must stay here and now I'm working on Rage. "But you know the level of technology reached [by the Wii U] reaches the other consoles, which is good for us.

Before that, the Wii was not our priority, the [game engine] Id Tech 5 is not compatible with the Wii, not at all. We seriously considered using the IOS version of Rage to create a Wii version. It would be perfect for a technological standpoint, and I think it could have been a nice game of Wii, but we decided that this was not the right time to come on the market for the Wii.

But now that we have a new platform to watch, to be perfectly compatible with our technology, I am sure we could do something on it. But from a marketing point of view we must ask, is it that people are not already served by another platform?

If you want to play hardcore gamer, the Wii console is in principle a second or even third choice for this type of audience. Even if we had launched Rage atop the glory of the Wii, people would have probably taken the game in PC version, 360 or PS3, which would render better justice to the game

We'll study the evolution of the market. But I am pretty excited by the touch screen [of the Wii U]. I think it will be more useful in games that the mere detection of movement, with which you had to rethink the game and you could not adapt as it is a FPS already well established. But I think the DS has already shown the advantages of a touchscreen, and can be numerous. "

Have You Had Any chance to Look at the Wii at all U?

So will we see Rage U Wii? Anything is possible!

Development kits for Wii U

U calls the Wii, Nintendo has not released much information about it. Presentations of its shares has been limited during E3, nobody knows yet what is really capable this upcoming console. Everyone goes there so its good words, announcing the most powerful, lagging behind its competitors, promising, etc. ... Difficult to untangle truth from fiction at this point, Nintendo has a long development work to do, but also have ...

Also, it is on the developers that the expectations are turning, the only currently know what it is about future possibilities of the console. He said therefore that this console is actually more powerful than its competitors, namely the PS3 and Xbox 360. Not really impress us, the news is taken with hindsight. Ultimately, at the time of its release, it would be wise to present the U Wii as more powerful, or at least equal to the next generation console ...

Crytek is one of the studios to work actively on the Wii and U for the moment the only information we provide "concrete". The Wii will run the U Cry Engine 3. So good news, time of day. But tomorrow?

Cacophonous big moment, taking the English ascendancy over the Japanese and Japanese to English, it was feared not understand anything of the conference. Fortunately, the language of Shakespeare took over quickly and we could expect, more or less patiently, the announcement of what was to be one of the major events of this E3.

U Wii is the new Nintendo console. After presenting complex and dense, the console has received additional information, more accurate this time. Glimpsed in the video demonstration and not at all put forward by Nintendo at its conference, a reader will complement the tablet. We understand that Nintendo has a little neglected this last innovation, particularly from the controller.

Nintendo probably did not disclose all the possibilities of the console and its shelf in particular. But let's look at this especially as the duo console-controller will be able to do. You can play more too banal, ultimately, on your TV controller in hand. But you can also transfer the image of your screen to the pad. And find your game as well, with a display as good, but in a "nomad". U Wii console will then send all the game data on your shelf, streaming.

Moreover, the controller should also receive the "Applications" dedicated but Nintendo certainly we'll talk later.

First impressions of the press, which has tested the console on the show, are very enthusiastic. The concept is innovative, stunning, yet difficult to grasp. But the first games announced very promising headlines. Nintendo wants to differentiate itself from its competitors, offer something else, another new way to play. The manufacturer still shot a wild card, through innovation. And so far it has been fairly successful.
