Can you reproduce the activity of a human brain and its billions of neurons? Researchers are currently conducting the experiment, says the Silicon website. Steve Furber, a scientist at the University of Manchester, and Andrew Brown of the University of Southampton, and try to design a supercomputer made up of a million ARM processors to reproduce the activity of a billion neurons - each 32-bit chip can indeed mimic the activity of 1000 neurons.
The billion neurons and is reproduced, however, far from being compared to a human brain, which comprises 80 to 90 billion neurons, the site notes. But as all of our neurons are not used simultaneously, the supercomputer, named Spinnaker, should be able to move closer to the brain and form the basis of realistic simulations of any part of our brain.
