Google Chrome 12 Safer and alert for CSS 3D


New stable version for Google Chrome that adds new security measures, control of confidentiality and supports hardware acceleration for 3D effects in CSS.

A Web browser that is the foundation of Chrome OS, the operating system that equips Chromebooks out mid-June. 12 Google Chrome has been downloading the Gears technology enabling the use of Web applications offline. A technology abandoned given the possibilities of HTML5 which will, for example exploited for offline Google Docs.

If Google Chrome 12 fixes a dozen security vulnerabilities (no criticism), it also offers a more secure navigation through the integration of protection against malicious downloads. It takes advantage of the Safe Browsing API (see our news) to take into consideration the original Windows executables potentially malicious. Where appropriate, a warning is displayed.

The side of privacy control, it is now possible to remove the Local Shared Objects (LSO) Flash directly from the browser without visiting the Adobe website. To this end, we must check the "Delete Cookies and other site data and plug-ins" in the advanced options when deleting data.

Hardware acceleration is gaining tape to support 3D effects in CSS, namely the transformation to position elements on a page in a three-dimensional space using CSS. Effects that are not yet plentiful on the Web, but that can be tested if the graphics hardware allows some experimentation with (Windows Vista or Mac OS X 10.6 at least).

The browser includes support preliminary screen readers (JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver). Note also from refinements, the ability to launch applications directly from the Omnibox, sync data that has its own settings page.

It is also possible to select multiple tabs (holding the Ctrl key on Windows). This allows for example to charge a group of tabs in particular, to close some.
